WOODVILLE — Coleman Carter had two extra-base hits and drove in four runs while Jackson Anderson brought in two runs to cap off an eight-run second inning as the Adams County Christian School Rebels defeated the Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams 14-9 last Friday afternoon.
Anderson’s two-run single was also the highlight of an amazing scoring outburst by MAIS Class 5A ACCS on the road against defending MAIS Class 2A state champion WCCA. Ethan Givens and Parker Roach each drew a walk off Rams starting pitcher Cole Partridge to bring in a run to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead to get things going in the top of the second inning.
Carter hit into a fielder’s choice, but that was enough to bring in another run. Colton Rabb singled in another run for a 4-0 ACCS lead. Levi Beasley induced a walk that brought in the fifth run of that frame. Hart Smith walked to score one run for a 6-0 advantage before Anderson’s big hit that made it 8-0.
Partridge was charged with the loss after allowing eight runs, just two of them earned, on two hits with one strikeout and seven walks.
Caden Aplin gave the Rebels a 9-0 lead in the top of the third inning thanks to an RBI fielder’s choice.
WCCA finally got on the scoreboard against ACCS starting pitcher Rankin Wiggins in the bottom of the fourth inning. Carter Graham had the big hit for the Rams with a two-run double. Jonathan Meredith walked to score one run. Nick Darbonne grounded out to bring in one run. Tucker Freeman singled in one run and just like that it was a 9-5 game.
Wiggins was the winning pitcher after allowing five runs, only one of them earned, on three hits with one strikeout and two walks in three and one-third innings.
However, the Rebels responded when Carter doubled to bring in one run in the top of the fifth inning to go up 10-5. But the Rams would not go away quietly as they plated one run in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 10-6 game. ACCS scored one run in the top of the sixth for an 11-6 lead. Carter had his biggest hit of the game in the top of the seventh as he hit a two-run home run to centerfield and then Smith singled to score one run to make it a 14-6.
Carter and Beasley each went 2-for-4 while Anderson and Rabb each went 2-for-5 to lead ACCS’s 11-hit attack.
WCCA tried to mount one last comeback, this time against Anderson, who came on in relief of Wiggins in the fourth inning. The Rams scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but it was not enough.
Easton Buteaux led the Rams at the plate by going 2-for-5 with a double. Jacob Sessions was 1-for-3 with a double and three runs scored. Graham went 1-for-3 with his double to go with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Anderson pitched three and two-thirds innings and gave up four runs, three of them earned, on three hits with two strikeouts and six walks.
With the win, ACCS improved to 10-3 overall. The Rebels played host to St. Aloysius High School in their MAIS District 4-5A opener on Tuesday with the junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
