Jonesville shooting injures 1 person, sends schools into precautionary lockdown

JONESVILLE, La. — On Wednesday afternoon, a shooting in Jonesville injured one person and prompted area schools to go into a precautionary lockdown.

A suspect has been apprehended, but no name or charges for the individual have been released as of Thursday morning.

Jonesville Police Department­ and Catahoula Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a disturbance that included “yelling and gunfire” in the area of Tal Gibson Street just after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, authorities said.

One individual was found injured near 9th and 10th streets and has been airlifted to Rapides Regional Medical Center for further care. Sandy Lake Fire and Rescue provided emergency medical services at the scene.

Authorities worked swiftly to identify a suspect and begin searching the surrounding area.

During the incident, Block High School and Jonesville Elementary School were placed on lockdown by Superintendent Johnnie Adams as a precaution until the suspect was apprehended. The lockdown lasted less than an hour. Authorities clarified that the incident did not occur on school grounds, nor did it involve any students.
