VIDALIA, La. – A Vidalia resident is in jail and an infant hospitalized after a March incident that left the child severely burned.
The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report on March 20 about a severely burned infant who was receiving treatment at the pediatric ICU in a Jackson hospital
“The CPSO Special Victims Unit immediately began an investigation into an incident that occurred at a Vidalia residence on March 2,” said Sheriff David Hedrick in a press release.
Hannah Marie Harveston, 23, of Vidalia was arrested and charged with second degree cruelty to a juvenile and obstruction of justice.
“April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month,” Hedrick said in the release. “Child abuse and neglect can lead to serious physical and mental health concerns. If we want to protect the well-being of children, we must learn to recognize the signs of abuse and know how to respond. Please report any suspicion of child abuse or neglect to the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services at 855-452-5437 and to the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office by dialing 911.”
