NATCHEZ—The National Weather Service office in Jackson has issued an enhanced threat of severe weather this afternoon and overnight for the Miss-Lou.
The worst weather is predicted to pass through this area from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday morning.
Meteorologists said severe thunderstorms are likely this afternoon into Sunday, especially west of I-55. Any severe storms that develop will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes. A strong tornado is possible in the enhanced risk area.
Robert Bradford, director of Adams County Emergency Management, said the Adams County Safe Room, located at 323 Liberty Road, will open today between 6 and 7 p.m. and will remain open as long as safe shelter is needed.
