Silver Street Retaining Wall Project, Canal and Homochitto paving update on city’s agenda Tuesday

NATCHEZ —The Silver Street Brick Retaining Wall Rehabilitation Project tops the agenda for the meeting of the Natchez Mayor and Board of Aldermen on Tuesday morning.

The meeting will begin at 11 a.m. in the Council Chambers, 115 S. Pearl St., across from City Hall.

The city’s Community Development Director, James Johnston, is expected to walk the aldermen through the project bids.

In addition, Tuwanna Williams, the city and county’s workforce development director, will seek permission to apply for a $1-plus million grant from the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District and contract with Lamar Billboard for six months.

Lastly, Williams is expected to seek permission to contract with Francis Ransom Jr. as a carpentry instructor.

Justin Dollar, director of Public Works, will provide an update on the Canal and Homochitto Street paving project and seek permission to declare two city vehicles surplus.

Mayor Dan Gibson is expected to seek approval to appoint an interim public defender and discuss the appointment of an interim judge to fill the vacancy left by Christina Daugherty’s resignation to join District Attorney Tim Cotton’s office.

Aldermen will also give reports of issues and happenings in their wards.
