NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Katie Bell West Henderson, of Katy, TX, formerly of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Monday, March 31, 2025, in Katy will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Christian Hope Baptist Church with Rev. John Scott Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow at Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

Katie was born on Aug. 21, 1944, in Natchez, the daughter of Sam and Elodie West. She was a graduate of Alcorn State University and William Carey College. Katie was a dedicated educator serving students in Gulfport, MS, and the Natchez Public School District for over 36 years. She was a member of Christian Hope Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as an usher. For many years, she was an active member of the NAACP and other organizations that promoted justice for all. Katie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents and other relatives.

Katie’s memories will be forever cherished by her son, Lawrence Clyde Henderson (Jakeria); granddaughters, Lauren, Logan, and Laurielle; grandsons, Keilan, Kanye, and Keishaunall; nieces, Constance Clayton (Autry) and Chevelle Rainey (Tommy), whom she raised as her own; sisters, Deloris Rollins and Brenda Scott; brothers, Plez West, Phillip West and Esaw West (Gladys); sister-in-law, Patricia West, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
