JACKSON – The Mississippi House of Representatives has passed House Concurrent Resolution 53 to recognize and commend Mr. Jerry Sims for his exceptional achievements in business and his lasting legacy in track and field at Alcorn State University.

A former world-record-holding sprinter, Sims made history in 1971 by co-holding the 60-meter indoor dash record and was an NAIA All-American. He later earned two master’s degrees and served as fixed asset manager at Alcorn State for 35 years.

Sims is also a successful entrepreneur, founding Mr. Sparkles Maintenance Services, which has served Fortune 500 clients and public agencies for over 30 years. His dedication to service includes leadership roles in local healthcare and education initiatives, including Alcorn’s Saturday STEM program.
