Natchez man faces drug, gun charges after traffic stop

NATCHEZ — On Monday, Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Natchez man for a cache of drugs and a weapon found on him during a traffic stop in February.
During the morning of Feb. 18, deputies stopped Kelvin Johnson, 39, on Highland Boulevard for a traffic violation. Deputies found a loaded Glock pistol, approximately 29 grams of suspected synthetic marijuana, approximately 12 grams of marijuana, 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 18 Alprazolan tablets, 4 grams of suspected cocaine, 21 hydrocodone tablets and approximately 6 grams of suspected MDMA.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said Johnson is a convicted felon and was arrested and charged with felon in possession of a firearm.
Johnson was released on bond after that arrest.
On April 3, presumptive tests were completed for the drugs that were found during the traffic stop and deputies obtained arrest warrants for possession of a Schedule I drug MDMA with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II methamphetamine with intent to distribute, Possession of synthetic marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule IV Alprazolam with intent to distribute, possession of Schedule II cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of hydrocodone with intent to distribute.
Further, all of the charges have a church zone enhancement since Johnson was stopped within 1,000 feet of Crosspoint Church.
On Monday, deputies arrested Johnson for the outstanding warrants at a residence on Lasalle Street in Natchez.
Deputies made a search of the room where Johnson was located and found a loaded Drako 7.62 x 39 in the closet on top of shoe boxes that belonged to Johnson.
Johnson now faces an additional felon in possession of a firearm charge, in addition to the drug warrants.
Patten said Johnson is currently being held on a $350,000 bond.
