NATCHEZ — The Adams County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to hire Mitzi Conn of Natchez to be the next county administrator.
Conn has spent her career in finance and accounting, mainly in the oil and gas industry. For more than 27 years, she held various leadership roles at Callon Petroleum.
Conn was one of 21 candidates who applied for the county’s top job. Supervisors winnowed down those applications to the four best at their meeting Monday and interviewed those candidates beginning at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
“The vote to offer Mitzi Conn the job was unanimous, 5 to 0,” said Kevin Wilson, District 2 supervisor and board president. “We had four really good candidates. Mitzi interviewed very well. Mitzi’s roots in Natchez were an advantage for her.”
District 1 Supervisor Wes Middleton agreed. “We had four excellent applicants.”
Originally from Kentwood, Louisiana, Conn earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting at the Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. A job at Callon brought her to Natchez.
Conn and her husband, Al Conn, are the parents of two sons: Trace Conn, 22, is a junior at Ole Miss; Corey Conn, 18, is a senior at Cathedral.
“The timing was perfect,” Conn said. “I have always loved Natchez. My husband grew up here and we raised our boys here. I hope I can make a difference and make Adams County an even greater place than it is.
“I look forward to meeting everyone in county government. Some I know, some I don’t know,” she said. “I look forward to being part of the Adams County team.”
While a start date has yet to be determined, Conn said she will be at work within the next two weeks. She will earn $100,000 as county administrator.
