BATON ROUGE, LA – Susan Gandy Olds, 73, of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025, at the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. Susan was born on Aug. 26, 1951, in Natchez. She was the only daughter of Dr. Thomas Howard Gandy and Sue Buford Gandy.
Susan attended high school at All Saints Episcopal School in Vicksburg, MS, where she made many lifelong friends. She went to the University of Southern Mississippi and then to Louisiana State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education. Susan taught school in East Baton Rouge Parish for many years, and those friendships continued long after retirement.
She is survived by her loving husband, John Russell Olds; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Wyn Singer; and three loving stepdaughters, Beth, Courtney, and Robyn Olds, who will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She also leaves behind three brothers, Warren Buford Gandy and his wife, Nell, Thomas Howard Gandy Jr. and his wife, Paula, William Wiley Gandy and his wife, Christy; a loving sister-in-law, Vera Lee Olds; and stepmother, Rev. Dr. Joan Gandy. Susan treasured her three amazing grandchildren, Trip Singer, John Hart Singer, and Simon Boonchai.
Susan will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She loved dogs, planting flowers, estate sale shopping, and gathering with friends, but mostly she loved any moment that she spent with family.
Susan lived life to the fullest, and the family would like to thank the entire nursing staff of the Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center’s Neurological Critical Care Unit, Dr. Greg Fautheree, and The Hospice of Baton Rouge’s Butterly Wing for impeccable care and love through these last few weeks.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on Tuesday, April 15, beginning with visitation at 9 a.m. followed by a service at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Hospice of Baton Rouge’s Butterfly Wing.
