NATCHEZ – Russell Lee Granger of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on April 5, 2025, was born on Dec. 15, 1961, in Kingston, the son of James Granger Sr. and Mamie Lee Washington Granger.

Mr. Granger was a decorated Sergeant in the United States Army at Fort Riley Army Base in Kansas, where he led his soldiers into battle during the Persian Gulf War. Mr. Granger was truly an exemplary soldier.  He was mission-minded and honored his missions well. After the military, he attended Jackson State University. He was formerly employed by Mississippi River Corporation in Natchez. He enjoyed hunting and all things outdoors. Mr. Granger retired to take care of his parents. He performed heroically, providing care for both during their latter years until their homegoing.

He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Herod and Frankie Shropshire Granger and Andrew Washington, Jr. and Alice Hayes Washington; sister, Rosa Granger Blanton; uncles, Herod, Jr., Willie, George, John, Arthur, and Peter Granger, Andrew, Willie, and Ansom Washington; aunts, Mary E. Granger, Lucinda Foster, Minnie Bell, Margaret Richardson, Ella Mae Granger, Bessie Lee Vicks, and Birtha Clayton.

Russell leaves to cherish his memories: brothers, James G. Granger, Jr. (Sonja), Wesley Granger, and Clay E. Granger; sister, Ruby Lee Granger and Shirley M. Mock; niece, Danielle Lewis (Darrick, Sr.); nephews, Anthony White, Jeremiah and Christian Granger, Berthrone Mock-Muhammad, Reginald and Morris Mock; great-nephew and niece he was close to, Darrick Lewis Jr. and Nyia Lewis, and other relatives.
