PRENTISS COUNTY, MS – Richard A. Horne Jr., 50, of Wheeler, MS, passed away Feb. 3, 2025.
He was born May 6, 1974, in Frankfurt, Germany. He graduated from Wheeler School in 1992, then joined the Navy. Upon completion of his enlistment, he worked many years in the family business. Among Richard’s loves were fishing, animals, and learning new things. He was an excellent contemporary long rifle builder and a self-taught carver and engraver. He was always a perfectionist at whatever he chose to do. He was very determined, had a heart of gold, and was a very loyal friend.
Richard is survived by his parents, Matt and Toin Avance, of Natchez; sister, Leigh Ann Hopkins; aunts, Connie (Jimmy) Nelson, and Sondra (David) Rawls of West Memphis, AR, Rhonda (Mickey) Dean of Ridgecrest, Melanie (Ricky) Merritt of Vidalia, Alecha Avance and Kim (Raphael) Octavio of Monticello, AR; uncles, Harvey (Frances) Horne of Vernal, UT and Vincent Wall of Tahlequah, OK. Richard also leaves behind a host of other relatives and dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at noon on Saturday, April 26, at South Union Cemetery, Feliciana Parish, LA. Jay Avance will officiate.
