Mr. Sanders was the current Wilkinson County Certified Flood Plain Coordinator. He was also a Democratic Party candidate for a seat on the Woodville Board of Aldermen in the general election set for June 3, 2025.
Mr. Sanders was a 1987 graduate of Wilkinson County Christian Academy and was class salutatorian and
vice president. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business. While at the University of Southern Mississippi, he was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity.
His work career began while attending college when he took a position with McRae’s Department Store in Hattiesburg. After graduation, he continued to work at McRae’s and advanced quickly into the store’s management level. He was with the company for a number of years in Mississippi, Georgia, and Alabama. He returned home in 2012 to help care for his mother and to work in the family business — Sanders Repair Service.
He had a great love for Woodville and the surrounding area. He was the owner of Marten’s Manor B&B and other local properties. He loved this town, and there were no limits on what he could do, including buying old houses to restore, spending weekends on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, taking care of his yard, which included many roses, and he was generous with his offers to help those in need. He loved this town, and the town loved him.
Survivors include his beloved dog, King Hershel (Hershy); a son, John Hayes Sanders, of Dallas, TX; father, Clifton Sanders, of Woodville; one brother, Todd Sanders; a nephew and niece, Thomas Sanders and Ana Laura Sanders, of Natchez; and a special cousin, Megan Spillman.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Sanders.
