Alleged human smuggler behind bars in Adams County

NATCHEZ — An Immigration and Customs Enforcement inmate has been transported from the Highway 84 prison to the Adams County Jail to await trial in Texas for the charge of human smuggling.

A warrant came to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office to arrest Sergio Armendariz Ibarra, 39, to appear before the 63rd District Court of Kenney County, Texas, in the City of Batesville.

Ibarra faces two counts of smuggling of person from February 22, 2022. According to the warrant, Ibarra had been issued a $10,000 bond but failed to appear in the Batesville court on Feb. 26, 2024, to face the charges.

“Ice released this guy to us from the HWY 84 prison,” said Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten. “We picked him up from the prison on (a) warrant and placed a hold on him for said agency until he signs his extradition waiver. He is being housed at ACSO.”
