NATCHEZ — Following an executive session on Monday morning, the Adams County Board of Supervisors voted to change the duties of the county’s Airport Commission.
Prior to the move, the airport commission oversaw all operations at the Natchez-Adams County Airport.
Kevin Wilson, District 2 supervisor and president of the board of supervisors, said the airport commission has been changed to an advisory board.
“We made the change in order to put more people with aviation experience on the commission,” Wilson said.
Moving forward, the county administration directly will oversee employees and operations at the airport, which is how other county department heads are supervised.
“They (airport director Richard Nelson and other personnel) will answer to the county administrator,” Wilson said. “We had people on that board who knew nothing about airports or aviation. It makes sense that we put more pilots on that board. They know what that airport needs. We want a more diversified group.”
New County Administrator Mitzi Conn will begin her work the first week of May.
