NATCHEZ — Despite constant heavy rain and strong thunderstorms that powered through the Miss-Lou region last Friday morning and into the afternoon, Cathedral High School head baseball coach Andrew Beesley made a stunning announcement at about 1:10 p.m. that afternoon.

And that was that Game 2 of the 2025 MAIS Class 5A South State Playoffs best-of-three series between the District 4-5A No. 2 seed Cathedral Green Wave and the visiting District 3-5A No. 3 seed Parklane Academy Pioneers would still take place on Friday at Chester Willis Field with Game 2 starting at a later time. Parklane Academy leads the series after last Tuesday’s upset win over Cathedral one game to none.

Instead of rescheduling Game 2 and, if necessary, Game 3 to another day altogether, Beesley said at that time that Game 2 would be moved back to 6 p.m. start time from its original 5 p.m. first pitch.

If the Green Wave had been able to back from its stunning 12-2 Game 1 loss in six innings last Tuesday afternoon at Parklane Academy in McComb by defeating the Pioneers in Game 2, then the deciding Game 3 would take place 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2. That is provided no more rain would fall during the afternoon.

And even though it rained, thundered, and lightninged for just over an hour after Beesley’s early-afternoon announcement, no changes had been made.

The winner of the Parklane Academy-Cathedral series will take on the winner of the series between District 4-5A No. 4 seed Adams County Christian School and District 3-5A No. 1 seed Oak Forest Academy in next week’s Class 5A South State Semifinals. Oak Forest Academy took care of ACCS 13-0 in four innings in Game 1 last Tuesday afternoon at Papa New Field.

The Yellow Jackets looked for the two-game sweep when they played host to the Rebels in Amite, La., with Game 2 at 4:30 p.m. However, if ACCS upset OFA in Game 2, then Game 3 would have taken place starting at 6:30 p.m.
