Hughes lone member of ACCS track team to qualify state meet

NATCHEZ — Only one member of Adams County Christian School’s track team qualified for the MAIS Class 5A State Track & Field Championships in Jackson,

ACCS track coach Stanley Smith said on Tuesday that Kierstyn Hughes did so by finishing in third place in the 100-meter dash last Saturday as part of the Class 5A South State Meet held at Silliman Institute in Clinton, La. Hughes crossed the finish line with a time of 13.44 seconds.

Hughes will run in the Class 5A Girls’ 100-meter dash as part of the running events that are scheduled to take place this Saturday at Jackson Preparatory School in Flowood at 1:18 p.m. start time for that event.

The field events are scheduled to be held on Friday starting at 9 a.m. at Jackson Academy in Jackson. The running events will take place at Jackson Prep on Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. Each of them is weather permitting with rain and thunderstorms forecast for much of Mississippi on Thursday and Friday ahead of a slow-moving cold front.
