NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Joanna Terrell Butler, 89, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, in Natchez, will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at the Providence Baptist Church with Rev. James Washington officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home and on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Joanna was born on Aug. 23, 1935, in Natchez, the daughter of Albert and Charity Terrell. She attended Brumfield School. She was employed at the Diamond International Paper Company until her retirement. Joanna was a member of the Providence Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a Deaconess, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible Study Coordinator/Teacher, and a member of the Mission Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking cakes, quilting, and doing word search puzzles.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Butler; siblings, Albert Terrell, Hagar Lewis, Corrine Turner, and Minnie Hartfield; and in-laws, Laura Minor, Elizabeth Brown, and Agnes Washington.
Joanna leaves to cherish her memories: sons, Wash Edward Butler and Kenneth Butler; daughters, Juanita Smith, Aletha Luss, and Penny Scott; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
