NATCHEZ — Adams County may soon be receiving twice as much revenue from the occupancy of immigrants housed at the prison on U.S. 84.

CoreCivic, which operates the Adams County Correctional Facility, is coming to a new contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement that they’ve been negotiating for several months, County Attorney Scott Slover said.

Within that contract, CoreCivic is renegotiating the fees that Adams County collects for the number of occupants at the facility, Slover said, adding, “It’s going to end up doubling our income from the fees of CoreCivic.”

Officials at the facility have reported it being at or near capacity of around 2,200 occupants, with Adams County previously receiving 50 cents per person per day in the facility.

County Attorney Scott Slover said Monday that the county looks to double that to $1 per person housed there in the next contract, which is reaching the end of negotiations between CoreCivic and ICE.

If at capacity, it could generate revenue over $800,000 a year for the county.

Supervisor Kevin Wilson asked at the April board meeting about increasing the county’s contract after learning that other areas charge a lot more.

“There’s another ICE location nearby getting $2 per head and we’re getting 50 cents,” Wilson said at the April meeting. “That’s $2 per head per day. So, we need to renegotiate what we get.”
