Areas of Mississippi and Louisiana including Adams County and Concordia Parish are under a flood watch through Thursday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition to the high level of the Mississippi River already causing flooding in some low-lying areas, there is a significant threat of heavy rainfall with the highest amounts between four and eight inches expected tonight through Thursday.

Later tonight is the greatest threat for flash floods, which may cause roads to flood or wash out, according to the NWS.

Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford said EMS is “on alert” and keeping careful watch of flood-prone areas.

“We’re asking residents who live in those typical flood areas to be cognizant that this is going to be an overnight event.”

Bradford said sandbags and sand are available to residents at the usual locations at 35 Majorca Road and the Foster Mound Road Volunteer Fire Department.

“Be careful tonight, especially when driving,” he said. “If roads become flooded, we will be blocking those off.”
