NATCHEZ — Power loss and fallen trees on roadways and one in an apartment building have been reported after storms that came through the area overnight Tuesday into early Wednesday morning.

A tree fell at Camelot Apartments, damaging the apartment of a volunteer firefighter and startling him awake at around 3 a.m. Wednesday, Adams County Emergency Management Director Robert Bradford said.

Other than that, Bradford knew of no other structural damages and no injuries as a result of the storm.

James Young, who lived alone in the apartment, said he didn’t know of any personal belongings being damaged.

“There’s just a big hole in the ceiling,” he said, adding that it may be all it is. “At this point, I don’t know.”

Thousands were without power at the height of the weather event. Nearly 500 Entergy customers in Adams County were still without power and 965 Southwest Electric meters were still out in the county. Across Southwest Electric’s service area, nearly 5,000 of 25,296 customers were still without power Wednesday morning after the storm.

Additionally, trees covered and blocked roadways throughout the county, including Rosalind Forrest, Southwind and Kingston Road at the fire tower and in the city on State Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Bradford said all roads have been cleared as of this morning but power lines are still down in the areas, so residents should be cautious.

Residents should contact their electric provider immediately to report downed power lines and treat all downed power lines as energized. Stay at least 10 feet away from fallen power lines.

Should a person accidentally come in contact with a down power line, do not touch them and instead call 911 immediately.
