NATCHEZ — Over 1,000 people are still without power in Adams County alone as of noon today while utility crews work to restore power and identify damages.
Entergy reported over 350 customers still out within the county as of noon on Wednesday, with over 900 out earlier Wednesday morning. A spokesperson with Entergy could not be reached immediately to give updates and restoration times. Customers can check for updates and report damaged lines by calling 1-800-ENTERGY or 1-800-368-3749.
At the highest, there were a total of around 5,700 meters out in the Southwest Mississippi Electric Power Association service area, which serves Adams, Franklin, Amite, Wilkinson, Jefferson, Copiah, Claiborne and Lincoln counties.
As of noon Wednesday, “We’re down to about 4,600 total meters out,” said Southwest Electric spokesperson Deb McGee.
Of those still out, 937 are in Adams County, McGee said, adding it’s estimated that all meters within the Southwest Electric service area will be back on by Thursday afternoon. As for Adams County, there is a broken pole in the Pine Ridge area that they’re waiting for a contractor to replace, which affects around 300 meters.
More outages are scattered in the Kingston and Sibley area and Southwest has identified two broken crossarms in the Washington area, McGee said.
“We’re working now on feeding power to (the Washington area) from a different substation to get those residents back on sooner,” she said.
With damage assessments still ongoing, Southwest Electric has found 11 broken poles, including 3 in Adams County.
“We may find more as we go along,” McGee said. Residents can help by reporting damages they see by calling 1-800-287-8564.
“That’s the first step. You’ve got to know what you’re up against before you know how to fix it.”
McGee added residents can also check the Southwest Electric smartphone app for updated restoration times “once we have enough information available to determine them.”
As always, stay at least 10 feet away from fallen power lines and treat all lines as energized to avoid accidents.
