VIDALIA, La. — While the Relay for Life event last Friday had been canceled due to inclement weather, Relay for Life of the Miss Lou has come up with another plan to honor cancer survivors, those who lost the fight and those who are still fighting.

May 13, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., there will be a smaller, modified version of Relay for Life at the Vidalia Conference & Convention Center at 112 Front St.

This Relay will consist of a Survivor Reception, Survivor Lap, Caregiver and Survivor Lap, Team Lap with Introductions, a few theme laps, a luminaria service, Silent Lap, a silent auction and end the night with an awards ceremony, said organizer Denise Davis.

Festivities take place in the Vidal Bowie Room of the convention center.

Event parking is located at the Convention Center parking lot under the bridges.  Do not park at the hospital parking lot or at the convention center itself.  Golf cart shuttles will be running to help people get to the convention center front doors from the parking lot.

Those who still have their silent auction items to donate or have decorated or prepared luminaria bags may bring those as well. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your support through this sudden cancellation and now modified Relay event, as we’ve never had to do this before,” Davis said to supporters. “Our area has had more rain this year it seems like than I have seen in a long time, which complicated our planning for sure.”

2025 RELAY FOR LIFE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

 

·      4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Survivor Reception hosted by Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Dr. Jack Rodriguez, The Market’s and Vidalia Women’s Club

·      5:30 p.m. Welcome by the relay committee and opening prayer with a song “The Climb” performed by Aubri Moss

·      1st Lap — Survivor Lap

·      2nd Lap — Caregivers Lap (Friends and family join survivors.)

·      3rd Lap — Introduction of Teams (All team members walk together with banners.)

·      Themed Laps — Limbo Lap, Birthday Lap, 80’s Theme Lap

·      6:30 p.m. Luminaria Service begins with scrolling presentation of memorials and honors from screens above

·      Silent Lap after presentation is complete (If your team purchased items for the themed glow lap, please feel free to use the glow items during this silent lap.)

·      7 p.m. silent auction and raffle winners announced (Must be present to win silent auction items. Payment due at end of the night.)

·      Lastly, Presentation of Team Awards
