Mayor and Board of Aldermen agenda full for Tuesday morning meeting

NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez Board of Aldermen will be introduced to Leah Hunter at its meeting on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Hunter is the new executive director of the Downtown Natchez Alliance.
Norma West, president of the Downtown Natchez Alliance, will introduce Hunter to the aldermen.
Also on Tuesday morning, teacher Sherry Gaines and paraprofessional Shamise Ware’s kindergarten class at Suzie B. West Elementary School will visit the meeting at 115 S. Pearl St., across from City Hall.
Other items on the city’s agenda include:
• Walter Biglane has requested to speak to the board about an easement at Ashburn Subdivision.
• Sharika Miller, director of the Natchez-Adams County Aquatic Center, will speak to aldermen about the pool opening and the hiring and rehiring of pool staff.
• Carter Burns, executive director of the Historic Natchez Foundation, and Liz Dantone of the Friends of Natchez City Cemetery, will discuss a Mississippi Department of Archives and History certified local government grant.
James Johnson, Community Development director, will discuss several items with aldermen, including:
• Setting a charging rate for the North Bluff Level II Electric Vehicle Charger.
• Cleaning of illegal dump sites via a Solid Waste Assistance Grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
• Abatement and demolition of the Fry Building using the 2023 EPA Brownfield Cleanup grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
• A request for quote bids for waterproofing the rooftop ductwork at the Natchez Convention Center.
Public Works Director Justin Dollar is expected to seek board approval to repair two culverts under Melrose Montebello Parkway and provide two quotes.
Each alderman will have an opportunity to present reports about happenings and issues in their wards, and Mayor Dan Gibson is expected to present a mayor’s report.
