CONCORDIA PARISH, La. – High water levels have prompted a “no wake zone” designation on all lakes in Concordia Parish, including Lake St. John and Lake Concordia.

The public safety notice was issued Thursday morning by the Concordia Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness and the Concordia Parish Police Jury. The Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office will enforce the designation.

“Boaters and recreational watercraft operators are required to operate at idle speed only to prevent wake creation,” the notice states. “This action is necessary to mitigate the dangers associated with high water conditions and to protect property, infrastructure, and public safety.”

Dangers of elevated water levels include:

  • Increased risk of shoreline erosion
  • Submerged hazards such as docks, trees, and debris
  • Compromised boat ramps, piers, and walkways
  • Threats to residential and commercial property
  • Reduced visibility and navigation hazards
  • Strain on flood control and drainage systems
  • Greater potential for injury or vessel damage

“We urge all citizens and visitors to exercise extreme caution and adhere to posted restrictions,” said. Tim Varnier, director of the Concordia Parish OHSEP. “Violations may be subject to penalties or fines as determined by local law enforcement.”
