NATCHEZ — Natchez is on celebrity watch with “The Deputy” now filming in the area.

Barkeep Bryan Price, known locally for serving drinks at the Natchez Grand Hotel and Monmouth, recently shared a picture of his celebrity encounter Sunday with William H. Macy (Fargo) on social media.

Besides Macy, the film is stacked with stars such as Duke Nicholson (Us), Tiffany Haddish, Stephen Dorff, Billie Lourd (American Horror Story), Devon Ross, and Colleen Camp.

“He was very outgoing and very personable, Price said. “He said he’s excited to be in Natchez, and I told him we’re very excited to have him here.”

In his career, Price said he’s had the opportunity to meet many celebrities during their work here including Dan Aykroyd (Get On Up), the rapper Juvenile from Cash Money Records, Anthony Zimmerman from Food Network and Awkwafina (Breaking News in Yuba County), who Price said is “hands down the funniest person I’ve ever met. I’m hoping to see more and more celebrities as the Natchez name gets to growing.”

Lynsey Gilbert, interim director of Visit Natchez, said Monday while it’s too soon to fully see the economic impact from film crews utilizing local resources for their cast, crew and film production, streets are already buzzing with some excitement about the filming activity seen at Crooked Letter Picture Company Stages on Liberty Road, owned by producers Tate Taylor and John Norris of Church Hill.

Filming will have an effect on at least one road as the Adams County Board of Supervisors on Monday voted to close Carthage Point Road at 5 p.m. on May 31 until 6 a.m. the next morning so that filmmakers may safely use it to stage a wreck scene near the old International Paper property.

Gilbert said local businesses are helping to give those who are working on the film the warm Natchez welcome.

“We’re putting together several welcome baskets and businesses have donated things to put inside them,” like gift cards and things of that nature, she said.

The Deputy is a thriller based on the book by Victor Gischler and follows the story of a young sheriff’s deputy named Toby (Nicholson) as he uncovers years-worth of hidden corruption within his town.
