VIDALIA, La. — Vidalia, one of 17 locations in the State of Louisiana with a community fishing pond, has just had its pond at William T. Polk Park restocked with 400 pounds of ready-to-harvest catfish.

Mayor Buz Craft shared the news of the restocking on Tuesday while reminding fishermen of its limits.

A limit of catfish is allowed to be caught at one time, Craft said. Keep whatever brim or fish you catch, but all bass are to be returned. It is also preferred that fishing take place only during daylight hours, not at night. Otherwise, “Some might try to stay out there all night to catch whatever they can. I don’t want to have to go around checking people’s ice chests, so please, stay within your limit.”

No nets or multiple hook lines are allowed, he said.

“It’s stocked two or three times per year,” he said, noting there is plenty for fishermen to catch in the pond.

Craft also asked those who utilize the pond to be courteous, avoid driving across the field when it is wet, and not to leave any trash behind.
