NATCHEZ – Martha Maddox Currie, age 86, of Natchez, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025.

Born on Dec. 6, 1938, in Ida, LA, Martha carried the values of her small-town upbringing—kindness, hospitality, and strong family bonds—throughout her life. A longtime resident of Natchez, she became a cherished member of the community and was known for her gracious spirit, generous heart, and deep love for those around her.

Martha was a devoted member of the Pilgrimage Garden Club, where she shared her passion for beauty, tradition, and the preservation of Natchez’s heritage. An avid gardener, she found joy and purpose among her flowers, often spending peaceful hours nurturing the plants she loved. She was also a talented and enthusiastic cook who never passed up the chance to explore a new cookbook or share a meal with family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved daughters, Vicki Currie and Trudy Carr (Frank); her cherished granddaughter, Christy Dubert (Jeff); her cherished grandson, Justin Carr, and his daughters, Charlotte and Palmer. She also leaves behind her loving companion, Joe Miller, and their treasured dogs, Scarlet and Madison. Martha is also remembered fondly by a host of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Monta Currie Jr., and her son, Victor Monta Currie III; her father, Carl Maddox, and mother, Tressie Sams Maddox; her sisters, Betty Jo Lummus (Samuel), Patsy Thompson (Henry), Mamie Hatfield (Jack), Charlene McGill (Benjamin), and her longtime friend and companion, Georgia Rose Williams.

A funeral service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held on Monday, June 16, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. A graveside service will take place at Natchez City Cemetery, with a reception to follow at 100 Main Street, 2nd floor.

Pallbearers will be Buddy Blair, David Francis, Connor Burns, Terence A. Williams Sr., Frank Carr, and Denton Biglane.

Honorary Pallbearers are Charlie Blaney, Randy McGill, John “John Jr.” Smith, Tony Byrne, and Nathaniel “Nat” Williams.
