NATCHEZ — Nine area public and private school students signed up and participated in a four-day summer camp program this week — the inaugural “Miss-Lou Pre-Law Academy.”
Students spent most of the four-day summer camp at the Adams County Courthouse, where they learned about related law fields of work such as attorneys, court reporters and judges with help from those with first-hand experience in those fields.

Two of the students, Maddox Simpson and JaTara Berry, each received a $500 scholarship to the school of their choice, thanks to support from community partners, said Judge Vincent Davis, one of the key organizers and sponsors of the program.

Other sponsors include Concordia Bank & Trust, Natchez Inc., Heidelberg Law and Natchez Printing.
Planning for this academy began in November of 2024 with the help of local high school guidance counselors, attorneys and judges of Adams County. This class was fashioned after the Themis Academy in Lee County, Davis said, adding he hopes it will continue to grow in Adams County for years to come.
