Arrest made in Fayette Day Festival fatal shooting

NATCHEZ — A Port Gibson man has been arrested for the shooting that killed one man and injured six others at the Fayette Day Festival.

Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey said Courtez D’Henry Damper, 20, was arrested Monday and charged with murder.

Rayshaude D. Hudson, 22, was killed during the Festival on May 31.

“We want to assure the community that we are committed to seeking justice for the victims and their families,” Bailey said. “This arrest is a crucial step in holding those responsible accountable, but our work is far from over.”

Damper was arraigned on June 17 and denied bond. He is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail.
