NATCHEZ — Adams County supervisors received reports on the number of calls handled by Adams County E-911 dispatchers, as well as AMR ambulance calls in the county, during the month of May.

Marlon “Chico” Sweazy, E-911 dispatch supervisor, reported dispatching 562 calls to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office; 966 calls to the Natchez Police Department; and 30 calls to the Natchez Fire Department.

Timothy Houghton, operations manager at American Medical Response Natchez, said ambulances responded to 398 requests through 911 for service. Of those, 290 were transported to a hospital, or 73 percent.

“That’s an increase from last month of about 4.5 percent. We are still seeing an increase in the number of people accepting transport once we get there,” Houghton said.

Average response time recorded in the city in May was 8 minutes 30 seconds. The average response time for calls in the county was 14 minutes.

Houghton said during May 19 helicopters transported patients from the field.

“We have five helicopters that fly into this area. We have one based here and have surrounding helicopters that come in. I want to give them thanks because they are doing a really good job,” he said.
