NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Gloria Mae Wright Singleton, 86, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Friday, June 13, 2025, in Tucson, AZ, will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 1 p.m. with Bishop J. L. Hammitte officiating.

Burial will follow at the Salem Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Fayette under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m., and a Celebration of Life will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue on Saturday from noon until the time of the service at the church.

Gloria was born on May 17, 1939, in Natchez, the daughter of Agnes Lewis Thompson and John Wright, Sr. She was a graduate of McClymonds High School in Oakland, CA, and Natchez College, and later attended Alcorn State University, where she majored in Elementary Education. She was baptized at an early age at the Avenue Baptist Church in Berkeley, CA. Gloria loved earrings and enjoyed reading her bible and books, listening to music, visiting the beauty salon, doing crossword puzzles, writing poetry, and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ernest Singleton; and sister, Mary Catrina Wright; sisters-in-law, Thelma Stancel and Getta Singleton; and brothers-in-law, Vernel Singleton and Matthew Nivens.

Gloria leaves to cherish her memories: son, Allen Singleton (Jennifer); daughters, HRH Princess Karen Chatman (Rayshon), Ernestine Singleton Thomas (Ronald), and Dr. Sandra Singleton Green (Michael); brother, John Wright Jr.; sisters, Vera Nivens and Raven S. Wright; and a host of other relatives and friends.
