NATCHEZ — The first heat wave of the year will make its way to the Miss-Lou region just as the summer season begins this weekend with a combination of above-average temperatures and high humidity.

Saturday is forecast to be mostly sunny with a very slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm — slight as in 20 percent at best — with the high temperature in the mid 90s. With the humidity expected to be in the 60-percent range, the heat index will likely be between 105 and 110 degrees. That will likely result in a heat advisory being issued for much of the day throughout the region.

And the wind will not be much of a factor, either, as it will be out of the south-southwest at only five to 10 miles per hour before becoming light and variable that night.

Sunday will start out sunny with the low temperature in the low- to mid-70s. Even though the high temperature is forecast to once again reach the mid-90s, there is an even higher chance of afternoon thunderstorms at 70 percent. And with humidity remaining high, a heat advisory could be issued for that day.

Outside of any thunderstorms that do develop that afternoon, the wind will be light and variable. There will be a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms in the evening before the sky becomes clear overnight with a low temperature Sunday night of 73 degrees.
