NATCHEZ – Doris Falkenheiner, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge, a retired attorney, an avid genealogist, and conservationist, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at The Carpenter House at the age of 83. She was born on June 6, 1941, in Ferriday and grew up in Vidalia. Doris was a 1959 graduate of Vidalia High School. Doris received a Bachelor of Science degree from LSU and a Juris Doctor degree from LSU in 1966. She was among the first 100 women licensed attorneys in Louisiana.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Doris Fenton Falkenheiner of Vidalia. Doris enjoyed reading, traveling, birdwatching, counting counties, and genealogy. Her collection of genealogy research records of the Falkenheiner family and her extensive collection of genealogical research books were donated to the Concordia parish library and are housed in the Doris Falkenheiner Room. Doris was an active member of many genealogy associations as well as conservation groups, among them: the Sierra Club, the Audubon Society, and Le Comite des Archives de la Louisiana, Inc.
She will be inurned at Greenlawn Memorial Center in Natchez, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 11 a.m.
The family would like to offer special thanks to her sitters, Jynell Hurst and Doretha Wright, for their loving care of Doris while she was a resident of Jefferson Manor Nursing Home. They were her angels on earth.
