NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Pastor Willie Joe Ellis, 87, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, in Natchez, will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at noon at New Hope The Vision Center with Bishop Alphonso Benson officiating.
Burial will follow on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 10 a.m. at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 until 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the church.
Pastor Ellis was born on Nov. 28, 1937, in Adams County, the son of Mattie Stewart Ellis and Joe Ellis. He attended high school and was employed with Fidelity Tire Company and owned a lawn care service until his retirement. He was the Pastor of Sixth Street Church Of God In Christ in Ferriday. In his spare time, he enjoyed pastoring, spending time with his family, and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Kelvin D. Ellis and Kenneth E. Green; grandmother, Jennie McCoy; grandfather, John Stewart; brothers, Alonzo Ellis, Bennell Ellis, George Fred Ellis, and Edward Ellis; and sisters, Louise Hill, Augusta Garmon, and Geraldine Craig.
Pastor Ellis leaves to cherish his memories: wife, Estelle Ellis; sons, Willie Joe Ellis Jr. (Cheryl), Michael A. Green Sr. (Vanessa), and Dr. Mark A. Ellis Sr. (Mary); daughters, Yolanda E. Mullen, Vicki E. Hewitt (Donald), and Susie O. Ellis; brother, Aaron Ellis; sisters, Lessie Brown (Al), Linda Ellis, and Barbara Sims; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
