Betty Jo was born on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1936, to Joel H. and Eunice J. Reese. She passed away peacefully at her home in Natchez on Thursday, June 26, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Herbert “Sonny” Moore; her son, Richard Alan Moore; her sister, Mary Eunice Reese Holland; and her brother, Joel Dean Riddle.
She is survived by her son, Joel C. Moore of Natchez; her brother, Joel Leon Reese (Cherrie) of Austin, TX; sisters, Peggy Reese Huseman of Natchez and Linda Reese Shirley of Vidalia; daughter-in-law, Jan Moore; brother-in-law, Clifford “Buddy” Moore of Natchez; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A graduate of Natchez High School, Class of 1954, Betty Jo took great joy in attending class reunions throughout the years. She was a cancer survivor for over 35 years. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Natchez and, at the time of her passing, was an active member at Parkway Baptist Church, where she belonged to the Adult Six Sunday School class. Additionally, she dedicated many years to the Ladies Firefighter Auxiliary.
Betty Jo found joy in simple pleasures—playing Bunco and Mexican Dominoes with her close-knit group of friends and enjoying Thursday lunches with her two sisters, a cherished weekly tradition. She also took pride in her work as an Avon representative, delighting in the relationships she built with her customers across the Miss-Lou area.
Betty Jo will be remembered for her gentle heart, unwavering support of those she loved, and the deep compassion that marked her life. Her legacy of love lives on through her family and the many lives she touched.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
