NATCHEZ — Natchez police are investigating a shooting late Saturday that injured as least one person in the Minor Street to Woodlawn area.
NPD commander Jerry Ford said the victim had been driving car in area of Minor Street when someone open fire and continued to fire shots at them while chasing them across Martin Luther King Jr Street to Prince or Spring streets to Woodlawn.
The victim had been shot multiple times in the process and drove himself to the hospital in the car that was being shot at, Ford said.
He was then airlifted from Merit Health Natchez to another trauma center. The extent of his injuries is unclear at this time.
Ford said NPD is seeking any information from public that can help with this investigation.
They may contact the Natchez Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 888-442-5001 to leave an anonymous tip.
Ford said to his knowledge, this shooting is unrelated to another murder that took place on Friday, July 4, at Holiday Apartments in Natchez, which killed 30-year-old Damien Strickland.
