NATCHEZ — An 89-year-old Texas tourist suffered a cracked collarbone, bruises and scrapes after being struck by a car while she crossed Main Street Wednesday morning.

Laverne Aycock of Sherman, Texas, was crossing the street at the intersection of Main and Pearl streets at approximately 11 a.m. when she was struck by a black Toyota Camry turning left onto Main from Pearl, knocking her to the ground, according to an eyewitness.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said Antoinette Foster, 41, of Natchez, was the driver of the Camry. He said the incident was determined to be an accident.

Is this picture really necessary??? Give the poor lady some courtesy.

  • Anonymous

At least the same courtesy they gave the anonymous person who hit her. Was this a hit and run?

Natchez Main St. isn’t any different than Canal St. in NOLA you have got to be alert!!! ND give us a little more information on this issue please!!

What was the name of the driver? Was the tag current? Did they have insurance? What was the driver charged with? Democrat reporters have a tendency to let major details slide while they spend all day trying to think of clever headlines.

I Saw the accident , the lady had the walk signal but the driver of the car had the green light. I have noticed this before at this intersection, and at Canal and Main. Driver should have been more alert I guess.

Everybody needs to Slow Down in our downtown area and realize that the tourist are here and looking up and not
paying attention. It’s up to us to be safe and protect our guest!

“Antoinette Foster, 41 of Natchez” was the driver of the black Toyota Camry. It’s in the last paragraph of the article.

If you are correct this will put the city of Natchez responsible and I feel they better not worry with building addition on the convention center, city owned building fix up, and infrastructure huh’??!!

I would think the driver would have at least gotten a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian.

It is now but it was not yesterday.

She should have looked both ways.

Well I assure you the Walk signal is given to people crossing Main, while cars turning left on Main have the green light. It’s really, the only way it can work pedestrians need a warning of turning traffic.

No, drivers need to pay attention. Pedestrians have the right away. There is nothing new about this. Just because the light is green doesn’t mean you can hit a pedestrian crossing the street.
