NATCHEZ — The City of Natchez’s municipal election is on Tuesday, April 9, immediately following the Republican runoff in Mississippi’s Second Congressional District primary that took place this week. However, city precincts are not the same as Adams County precincts, Election Commissioner Larry Gardner said.

In particular, Ward 3, in which Alderwoman Sarah Carter Smith is running unopposed, the precinct moves for the first time from Crosspoint Church to Cornerstone Church, which is at the former Trinity Episcopal School at 321 U.S. 61 South.

This is because after the reapportioning of the city wards following the 2020 Census, Crosspoint Church is no longer inside of Ward 3.

Verify your voting location before voting Tuesday by visiting sos.ms.gov/yall-vote by clicking on the “My Election Day” button. Then, enter your address and scroll down to “Municipal Polling Place.”

Note, that “County Polling Place” is listed first, but the “Municipal Polling Place” is the correct one for Tuesday’s election.

Absentee ballots are accepted through Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to noon at the City Clerk’s office in City Hall and during normal business hours. Mail-in ballots are due on Monday, April 8, by 5 p.m. in the city clerk’s office at City Hall.

The election includes three contested alderman races.

In Ward 1, Alderwoman Valencia Hall is challenged by Larry Hooper. In Ward 4, Felicia Bridgewater-Irving is opposed by two candidates, Adrian Fulton and Michael Calcote.

Ward 5 Alderman Ben Davis faces Jamar White.

All of the municipal candidates are running as Democrats.

Mayor Dan Gibson, Municipal Judge Christina Daugherty, Ward 2 Alderman Billie Joe Frazier, Ward 3 Alderwoman Sarah Carter Smith and Ward 6 Alderman Curtis Moroney do not face an opposing candidate.
