NATCHEZ — A storm system forecasters fear will fuel a tornado outbreak in the nation’s midsection this week could also bring severe weather to the Miss-Lou.

Meteorologist Latrice Maxi with the National Weather Service in Jackson said severe storms could develop across the area Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening.

The storms could bring wind gusts up to 60 mph, hail and possibly a tornado.

“A good part of that (storm) will be north of you guys, but there’s a chance it could be severe in the southwest (part of the state),” Maxi said.

Flash flooding is not expected to be a concern, but should not be completely ruled out, Maxi said.

Temperatures will be in the lower to mid 80s, with lows around 65 or 70 degrees.

The most dangerous weather is expected today in parts of Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma, where softball-size hail and strong, long-lasting tornadoes will be possible.
