NATCHEZ — Firefighters from the Natchez Fire Department and from the Adams County’s volunteer fire stations responded to a fire at the Von Drehle plant on Majorca Road in the Natchez-Adams County Port area.

Natchez Fire Chief Aaron Wesley said firefighters responded at approximately 6 a.m. Friday to a fire in one of the paper supplier’s warehouse areas. Five firetrucks were on the scene, including two pumper trucks from NFD and two firetrucks and a brush truck from Liberty Road, Foster Mound and Kingston volunteer fire stations.

At noon, Wesley said most of the fire had been extinguished. Because of the amount of paper being restored in the facility, Wesley said fire crews were still moving paper out of the affected area and extinguishing any areas that are still smoldering.

Wesley said he did not know the cause of the fire, nor the extent of the damage to the facility.

Von Drehle bought the former Mississippi River Pulp facility in 2013 and was completing an expansion to the paper manufacturing facility.
