Michael W. Hendrix
Oct. 20, 1955 – March 22, 1999
LITTLETON, Colo. – Memorial services for Michael W. Hendrix, 43, of Littleton, formerly of Natchez, who died Monday, March 22, 1999 at Columbia-Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Natchez with the Rev. Zabron A. Davis III officiating.
A memorial service was held March 26 at the Shepherd of the Hills Church in Littleton.
Hendrix was born Oct. 20, 1955 in Natchez, the son of Dell Wactor Hendrix. He was a 1973 Honor Colonel graduate of South Natchez High School and in 1979 he was a Cum Laude’ graduate of Virginia Poly Tech where he participated in the Co-op program and worked at the Naval Systems Division of the CIA in Alexandria, Va. He was employed by Lockheed-Martin Astronautics as an engineer until his death. He consulted on many projects, most recently the Titan-Cassini Probe scheduled to arrive on Saturn in 2004.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Jake and Iva Wactor.
Survivors include his mother, Dell Wactor Hendrix of Natchez; three sisters and spouses, Ann and Robbie O’Bryant of Natchez, Elaine and Bobby Snyder of Starks, Fla. and Helen and Brandon King of Colorado Springs; three nephews, Terry Whitten, Danny King and James King Jr.; two nieces, Sharrese Hartley and Teresa Ryles and a number of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Clara E. Scales
Oct. 10, 1905 – April 5, 1999
Services for Clara E. Scales, 93, of Maywood, Ill., who died Monday, April 5, 1999 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Zion Baptist Church in Natchez with the Rev. Wilson Ford officiating.
Burial will be at the Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Curtis Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Scales was born Oct. 10, 1905 in Natchez, the daughter of Daniel and Caroline P. Scales. She was a graduate of Adams County Public School, Alcorn State University in Lorman and Xavier University in New Orleans. She was employed by Concordia Parish School District as a teacher where she retired in 1974. She was a Baptist and a member of New Zion Baptist Church and New Zion Baptist Church senior choir.
Survivors include two sons, Leonard and his wife Janice Green of Maywood, Ill. and John D. Green of Broadview, Ill.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one nephew; and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
Larry Wayne Case
June 23, 1949 – April 7, 1999
JONESVILLE, La. – Memorial services for Larry Wayne Case, 49, of Jonesville, who died Wednesday, April 7, 1999 in Jonesville, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lake Lilly Baptist Church near Jonesville with the Rev. Frank Bass officiating.
Burial will be private under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Case was born June 23, 1949 in Ferriday, the son of James Lamar Case Sr. and Darsey Loraine Gordon. He was a self-employed mechanic and was of the Baptist faith.
Case was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Lynn Case. Survivors include one brother, Jimmy Case of Jonesville and one sister, Patsy Coldiron of Pineville.

John P. Gary
June 19, 1918 – April 4, 1999
SICILY ISLAND, La. – Services for John P. Gary, 80, of Sicily Island, who died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at Southern Oaks Nursing Home in Wisner, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Sicily Island with the Rev. David Brown Jr. officiating.
Burial will be at the church cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home, Inc. of Ferriday. Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Gary was born June 19, 1918 in Archibald, the son of Haywood and Maggie Harris Gary. He was a retired chef and a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Enterprise Masonic Lodge 99.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Long Gary; one daughter, Pamela Roy; and a son, John P. Gary Jr. Survivors include six sons, Charles Gary and Henry L. Smith, both of Los Angeles, Jerry Gary of Jonesville, Michael K. Gary of Winnsboro, Robert L. Smith of Charlotte, N.C., Robert A. Gary of Dallas; one brother, Golden Gary of San Diego; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Willie Gibson
Sept. 8, 1920 – April 5, 1999
VIDALIA, La. – Services for Willie Gibson, 78, of Ferriday, who died Monday, April 5, 1999 at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church at Concordia Park in Vidalia with the Rev. James Washington officiating.
Burial will be at the Whitehall Cemetery in Vidalia under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home, Inc. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Gibson was born Sept. 8, 1920 in Fayette, the son of Samuel and Katie Thomas Gibson.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church where he also served on the Usher Board.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva B. Gibson of Ferriday; four sons and their spouses, Arthur and Annie Bates and McKinley and Debra Bates, all of Vidalia, Vince and Clara Mack and Juluis and Delores Mack, all of Sacramento, Calif.; three daughters and their spouses, Phyllis and Ernest Ellis, Velma and Robert Fortune and Janie Bates, all of Ferriday; one sister and her husband, Bobbie Jean and Walter Johnson of Washington; two cousins, Mattie Lewis and Aldalaid Sanders, both of Natchez; 43 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

Jessie B. Davis

Services for Jessie B. Davis, 70, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greater New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Noble officiating.
Burial will be at the Pine Hill Memorial Cemetery under the direction of West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Davis was born Jan. 9, 1929 in Natchez, the son of Mary Grant Dorsey and Cleveland Smith Sr.
She was educated in the Natchez public school system and she was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Greater New Zion Baptist Church. She was a previous member of the usher board and a member of the missionary society.
Davis was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lottie Clayton; one brother, Cleveland Smith Jr. and her husband, Monroe Davis.
Survivors include one daughter, Helen Norman and husband Thomas White Sr. of Natchez; two grandchildren, Marcus D. Norman and Lisa D. Norman, both of New Orleans; three great-grandchildren; Marcus D. Norman Jr., Kalin Evan Norman and Kendall Aguillard, all of New Orleans; one stepdaughter, Laura Washington Hill of Natchez; one step-grandson, Marcus Washington of Natchez; two sisters, Birda Jones of Natchez, Mary L. Scott of St. Louis; one brother, Mr. Charles Douglas of Natchez; step-father, Jerry Douglas of Natchez; one aunt, Dorothy Covington; two uncles, Henry Covington and Charles Smith, all of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Lynn Marvel, Charles Sims, Michael Gaylor, Wilbur Berry, Ray Sims and Alvin Clark.
Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Jones, Elijah Jones, Charles Clayton, Autry Clayton, Robert Clayton, Cleveland Smith III and Willie Charles Norman.
Thelma Harris Hunter

LEESDALE, La. – Services for Thelma Harris Hunter, 72, of New Orleans, who died Wednesday, April 7, 1999 in New Orleans, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter Rock Baptist Church in Leesdale with the Rev. Carl Smith officiating.
Burial will be in the Leesdale Cemetery under the direction of West Funeral Home.
Visitation is from noon until service time Saturday at the church.
Mrs. Hunter was born March 26, 1927 in Adams County, the daughter of Jacke and Adliner Squalls.
Survivors include one sister, Queen Ella Squalls of Minneapolis; one brother, Lee Edward Harris of Minneapolis; five children, Charles Hunter, Patricia Pargett, Ken Hunter, Larry Hunter and Gary Hunter, all of New Orleans; three grandchildren, Anthony Carter, Kandy Pargett and Calvin Pargett, all of New Orleans; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
