Centreville Academy Rob Robertson will be playing his final season for the Tigers. Then he’s becoming a Rebel.

Robertson committed to Ole Miss Tuesday, picking the Rebels over LSU.

&uot;I have a lot of connections with Ole Miss,&uot; Robertson said. &uot;A lot of my family went there. I really like the coaches and the campus. I just felt real comfortable there.&uot;

Robertson was also being highly recruited by Stanford.

Robertson is the second Centreville player in two years to select Ole Miss.

Tight end/defensive lineman Justin Sawyer signed with the Rebels last February.

&uot;It will be neat to play with one of my high school teammates,&uot; Robertson said.

Robertson said the fact Ole Miss had one of its best recruiting classes last year had nothing to do with his committing with the Rebels.

&uot;I didn’t really base it on that, they just did a good job of recruiting me,&uot; he said.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Robertson said he is being recruited as a linebacker.

&uot;I need to put on some weight,&uot; Robertson said. &uot;Once I get up there I can concentrate on one sport and work more on the weights. I need to get a bit stronger.&uot;

Robertson also plays basketball and baseball at Centreville and runs track.

Robertson said he wanted to make his selection now so he wouldn’t have that decision hanging over him the rest of the school year.

&uot;I want to have fun this year, being my senior year,&uot; he said. &uot;I feel good that it’s all over with.&uot;

Robertson totaled 124 tackles last year for a Centreville team which went 14-0, defeating Carroll 41-7 for the Mississippi Private School Association Class 3A state championship.

Robertson said not as much depth this year will make it tough to repeat last year’s amazing record.

&uot;We play some tough teams,&uot; he said. &uot;But with the good Lord’s blessing, you never know. It’s going to take a lot of conditioning on our part.&uot;

Robertson was timed at 4.46 in the 40 at the LSU football camp.

Centreville will face Parklane and Amite School Center in the Parklane Jamboree Friday.

The Tigers open their season Aug. 20 at Bowling Green. Centreville plays at ACCS Sept. 3
