In a battle of two teams that had yet to get a win, Chamberlain Hunt had little problem in defeating Sylva Bay 41-0 Friday night.

It was the CHA running game and defense that were the keys to the victory.

Chamberlain Hunt racked 319 total rushing yards on 52 carries while the defense held the Sylva Bay offense to 60 total yards and forcing five turnovers.

Running back Matthew Burrell had 23 carries for 193 yards and four touchdowns. Burrell scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter, from five yards out in the second quarter, from seven yards in the third quarter and from 20 yards in the fourth quarter.

CHA’s other touchdowns came on a Sam McLemore five-yard run in the second quarter and on a 18-yard run by Wesley Purvis, who also scored on a two-point conversion after Burrell’s second touchdown of the game.

T.C. Clayton converted on one of three extra points and Henry Purvis scored on a two-point attempt after Burrell’s final touchdown of the game.

McLemore also had 16 tackles and one sack on defense.

The only thing that did not go right for CHA was that the offense fumbled the ball seven times, losing five of them. But the defense would not allow Sylva Bay to capitalize on them.

Chamberlain Hunt improved to 1-2 and will host Mt. Olive next Friday. Sylva Bay dropped to 0-3.
