FERRIDAY, La. – The Hounds of Huntington High School went toe-to-toe with Prairie View on paper.

However, on the field it was a completely different story. The Hounds of Huntington High went down in defeat to Prairie View by way of a 33-20 score.

The one statistic that Huntington did not have in it’s favor by the end of the game was passing yards, and ultimately, that is what did them in.

After playing to a scoreless tie in the first quarter of the game, Prairie View used that ferocious passing attack to open the scoring early in the second quarter.

Chase Bostwick rifled a 55-yard pass to Shawn Hickman for an early 6-0 advantage.

Shortly thereafter, Prairie View used it’s ground game to offset it’s passing attack, when Garrett Travis rumbled into the end zone from five yards out. The attempt for the extra point was thwarted by the Hound defense, and Prairie View was forced to be content with a 12-0 lead.

Huntington answered late in the second quarter, when Colin Taunton scampered into the endzone from the 11-yard line. Darrin McAllister kicked the extra point through the uprights, and that pulled the Hounds to within five at 12-7.

Prairie View pulled away for good in the second half, when in the third quarter, Jeremy Harris ran past the Hound defense from seven yards out. Travis ran in the two-point conversion, which made the score 20-7.

The beginning of the end for the Hounds was the play that saw Prairie View quarterback, Bostwick, hook up with Harris on a 72-yard touchdown pass. Bostwick would add the extra point, and make the score 27-7 in favor of visiting Prairie View.

Prairie View would add one more score, when Brandon Bunch intercepted a Tom Terry Milliken pass, and returned it 40 yards for the touchdown.

Luke Davis would score a touchdown in the fourth for the Hounds, as would Taunton from two yards out.

Taunton was the leading ball-carrier for the Hounds with 13 carries for 101 yards, and Davis finished with 81 yards on the night. Barrett Arthur led the Huntington receiving corps catching two passes for 34 yards.

Arthur would also lead the team defensively with 15 tackles on the night.

Huntington (1-2) will travel to Wilkinson County Christian Academy next Friday. Prairie View is now 3-0.
