Jackie Williamson loves coming to Natchez. It doesn’t hurt when his team is on the winning side of the scoreboard either.
Williamson was an assistant coach in football and baseball at Natchez High for three years before moving on to Vicksburg High the last three years.
The Gators’ 52-6 win over Natchez Friday gave Williamson a 2-1 edge over his former Bulldogs.
&uot;It’s always special coming back to Natchez,&uot; Williamson said. &uot;No matter how long I’ve been away, they still come up and speak. And some of the (Natchez)&160;players I helped coach in the springtime. A lot of them came up and talked to me.&uot;
Vicksburg, 2-1, scored 17 first quarter points on its way to a 52-6 win over Natchez here Friday.
&uot;We want to jump on any team we can early because we’re so young,&uot; Williamson said. &uot;The main thing we have to do is keep the kids settled down early.&uot;
Williamson coaches the Vicksburg quarterbacks.
Junior Antonio Raney completed 3 of 11 passes for 32 yards and rushed for two yards. Junior Chris Markham was 0 for 3, rushing for 11 yards.
&uot;I didn’t think our quarterbacks played that well,&uot; Williamson said. &uot;We’ve got to get better.&uot;

This is the first year for Antonio to start. They’ll both be back next year. We’ll probably move (Markham) to wide receiver.&uot;
