Cathedral, Natchez fall short

Cathedral High dropped its first Division 6-2A contest of the season, spotting Loyd Star a 9-0 advantage before falling 11-8.

In other action, Natchez High lost to Amite County 26-15 in a non-division game and Franklin County routed Jefferson County 23-1.

Cathedral fell to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in division play. The Lady Wave defeated Loyd Star last week.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Lady Wave in the first inning and added three more runs in the third.

Two more runs in the fourth gave Loyd Star a 9-0 advantage.

Cathedral battled back with four runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth, but fell three runs short.

&uot;We were flat at first and they just jumped on us,&uot; said Cathedral coach Lynn Ogden. &uot;We had a couple of chances. But I was proud of the girls for battling back. We’ve still got a few things to work on.&uot;

Jessica Barrett had two home runs to lead the Lady Wave offense, while Krystal Groom added a triple and home run.

Katie Bailey added two singles and Carol Savant doubled.

Cathedral plays at Richland Tuesday.

Amite outscores Natchez

The Lady Bulldogs scored 15 runs but itwasn’t enough against the Lady Trojans, who pushed 26 runs across the plate.

Kelly Fuller tripled, doubled and had two singles to lead Natchez. Morgan Grover had threesingles, while Chrystal Sylvester hit a home run and singled.

Mable Green added two singles and Delisa Lewis doubled.

Natchez hosts Jim Hill Tuesday.

Franklin coasts to win

The Lady Bulldogs held Jefferson County to one hit in their 23-1 win.

Christy Day, Shantae Gills and Emma Harris had three hits each for Franklin.

Jenny Chapman, Janet Chapman, Gils and Harris each doubled.
