Services for Patsy Freeman, 60, of Monterey, La., who died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, La., will be at 11 a.m. today at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Jones officiating.

Burial will be at New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookhaven and graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Mrs. Freeman was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Brookhaven, toPercy and Myrtle Johnson Adams. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Brookhaven.

Mrs. Freeman was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby S. Freeman and one son, Timothy Keith Freeman.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bobby C. and Sandra Freeman of Austin, Texas, and David R. Freeman of Vidalia, La.; one daughter and her husband, Cindy and Mike Dittman of Monterey; two sisters, Lurlene Soverns of Tallulah, La., and Marilyn Rogers of Pine Bluff, Ark.; five grandchildren, Brandon Kyle and Timothy Keith Freeman of Lafayette, La., Jerry Donald Frutiger of Shelbyville, Tenn., Brian Patrick Freeman and Kaitlyn Breann Freeman, both of Vidalia.

Pallbearers will be family members.

James Edward Kelly

Oct. 9, 1962 – Sept. 12, 1999

Services for James Edward Kelly, 36, of Natchez, who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. James Beverly officiating.

Burial will be in the Kelly’s Cemetery in Garden City under the direction of Webb Funeral System.

Visitation is from noon to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

The procession will leave the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Mr. Kelly was born Oct. 9, 1962, in Adams County, the son of Mozella Kelly Griffin and the Rev. James Bernard.

He was a painter.

Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Louis Bradley; and one brother-in-law, Issac Starks.

Survivors include three sons, Derrick Hawkins, Joshua Hawkins, both of New Jersey and Terrenci Hawkins of Natchez; six sisters and their husbands, Daisy Starks, Ruth Bernard, Marie and Amos Johnson, Mary and David Gibson, Susan and L.J. Hunt, all of Natchez and Annie and Robert Edwards of Killeen, Texas; one half-sister, Vee Bacon of Natchez; three brothers and their wives, Johnny and Linda Griffin, Dan Terry Griffin, all of Natchez and John and Brenda Griffin of Chicago; a friend, Cariola Lloyd; three aunts; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Charles Henderson, Alan Henderson, Robert Alexander, Corey Holmes, William Johnson, Eugene Woods and James Smith.

Catherine W. Calhoun

March 17, 1951 – Sept. 11, 1999

Services for Catherine W. Calhoun, 48, of Dallas, who died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999. in Dallas, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rose Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth E. Stanton officiating.

Burial will be in the Robinson Chapel Baptist Church under the direction of George F. West Funeral Home. Visitation is from 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

Mrs. Calhoun was born March 17, 1951, in Adams County, to George Wright and Susie Myles Wright. She was a member of Robinson Chapel Baptist Church.

Survivors include four children, Cassius Wright, Suzanne Calhoun, Kristie Calhoun and Kizzy Calhoun, all of Natchez; two brothers, Americus Wright of Philipeans and Robert Wright of New Orleans; seven sisters, Mary Hunt, Pinkie Miller, Agnes Mayberry, Rebecca Wright, all of Natchez, Suewilla Woodfork of Belchertown, Ma., Katie Butler and Hattie Brown, both of Chicago; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Dixon, Robert Dixon, Arthur Seals, Dwight Smith, Dan Davis and Greggory Thomas.

Emma Lee Smith

Dec. 1, 1920 – Sept. 12, 1999

PORT GIBSON – Services for Emma Lee Smith, 78, of Redlick, who died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at her residence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Nelson officiating.

Burial will be at East Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Redlick under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation is from 1 to 7 p.m. with family hour from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home and from 1 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.

She was born Dec. 1, 1920, the daughter of Henry Bailey and Mary Scott-Bailey.

She moved to Chicago in 1942 where she worked for Continental Clothing for 25 years. She married in 1950 and moved back to Redlick in 1971. She was a member and usher at Second Baptist Church in Port Gibson.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edgar Smith; eight brothers, Woodrow Bailey, Warnelzia Bailey, Luther Bailey, L.B. Bailey, Steven Bailey, Leroy Bailey, Henry Bailey and Dove Bailey; three sisters, Nancy Walker, Willie Larry and Fredonia Bailey.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Lorraine Alexander and Michael Alexander of Charlotte, N.C.; four sisters, Marie Smith of Chicago, Tommie Slaughter of Jackson, Eva McDaniel of Gary, Ind., and Etta Washington of Lorman; two brothers, Walter Bailey and Sterling Bailey, both of Redlick; three grandchildren, William Michael Alexander, Gina Gabrielle Alexander and Victoria Lynn Alexander, all of Charlotte; two godsisters, Mary Elizabeth McClutcheon of Chicago and Louise Weary of Jackson; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including her friend, Martha Reed of Pattison.

Joseph Wayne Cupit

Aug. 18, 1980 – Sept. 6, 1999

VIDALIA, La. – Memorial services for Joseph Wayne Cupit, 19, who died Monday, Sept. 6, 1999, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico, will be at 11 a.m. today at Vidalia First Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Nunn and the Rev. Dale Little officiating.

Mr. Cupit was born Aug. 18, 1980, in Natchez. He was a student at Onate High School and was also attending Dona Ana Branch Community College. He was a member of the Onate ROTC and Vidalia First Baptist Church.

Mr. Cupit was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Jean Cupit.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Rae Jean and Gregory Barela of Las Cruces, New Mexico; his father and stepmother, Dicky Wayne and Sue Cupit of Bastrop, La.; one sister, Pam Little and her husband Jamie Little of Natchez; one niece, Brittany Little; one nephew, Michael Little; maternal grandparents, Merle and Jane Garrison of Chandler, Ariz.; paternal grandparents, Roy and Esteen Cupit of Vidalia; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Allen Delahue

Oct. 31, 1929 – Sept. 14, 1999

FERRIDAY, La. – Services for Allen &uot;Tank&uot; Delahue, 69, of Ferriday, who died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Curtis Smith officiating.

Burial will be in the Church Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home, Inc.

Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Ferriday, the son of Eddie and Beatrice Delahue.

He was a retired farmer.

Survivors include devoted cousins and caregivers, Joseph and Rachel Reed of Ferriday; three brothers, Cleveland Delahu and wife Lilly Mae of Ferriday, George Rohegan of New Orleans and Alfredrick Delahue of Milwaukee; two sisters, Adell Delahue of Milwaukee and Amelia Washington of Fresno, Calif.; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James Edward Baker Sr.

March 13, 1948 – Sept. 10, 1999

NEWELLTON, La. – Services for James Edward Baker Sr. of Newellton, who died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, in Winnsboro, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shiloh Solomon Temple with the Rev. Benjamin Battle officiating.

Burial will be in the Newellton Ridge Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Baker was born March 13, 1948, in Natchez, the son of Abraham Baker and Johnnie Lee Davis Mack. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Magnolia Baptist Church in Newellton. He was a guitarist having played with PeeWee Whitaker and Hezekiah Early and others.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Dison Baker of Newellton; his parents, Abraham Baker of Newellton and Johnnie L. Mack of Monroe, La.; six sons, Michael Cook of Memphis, Marcus James of Missouri, Brandon Baker, James E. Baker Jr. of Futenma, Japan, Kenneth Baker and Joseph Baker of Newellton; two daughters, Tammytha D. Scott of Killeen, Texas, and Christina Baker of Monroe, La.; nine brothers, Joseph Baker of Dallas, Michael Baker of Seattle, Joel Davis of Chicago, Rayfield Baker, Kenneth Baker, Tony Baker and Jimmy Mack Jr., all of Monroe, Anthony Baker and Carl Griffin of Fort McClellan, Ala.; three sisters, Mable Kennedy and Adell Baker of Monroe and Celia Gilmore of Baton Rouge, La.; five uncles; nine aunts; and a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

June R. Dewing

Services for June R. Dewing, 83, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at Natchez Regional Medical Center, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Laird Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bart Walker officiating.

Entombment will be at Green Valley, Ariz., at a later date.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born Nov. 3, 1915, in Minnesota. She was a world traveler, and an antique furniture expert and sang light opera.

Mrs. Dewing was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Dewing.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Lance Gordon Darin, M.D., of San Francisco; two daughters, Maureen June Psycharis of San Jose, Calif., and Mary Gwynne May Millione of Natchez; seven grandchildren, Kim Darin, Julie Darin, Stephanie Darin, Elianna Psycharis and Elizabeth Psycharis, all of California, Kathleen Millione and Lance Millione of Natchez. The family request memorials be made to the Natchez Opera Foundation.

Emma Robinson

FERRIDAY, La. – Funeral arrangements for Emma Robinson, 87, of Ferriday, who died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Camelot Leisure Living, are incomplete and Davis & Jones Mortuary.

Helene C. Krueger

VIDALIA, La. – Services for Helene C. Krueger, 92, of Clayton, who died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Camelot Leisure Living in Ferriday, will be at 2 p.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Revs. Murray Clayton, Anthony Dharmaraj and Paul Kunnunpurum officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.

She was born Nov. 22, 1906 in Bottrop, Germany, to Adolph and Anna Chorowsky. She was a homemaker and member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Krueger.

Survivors include a daughter, Anna Marie Clayton of Clayton; a son, Rudolph A. Krueger of Natchez; two sisters, Annie Schirrman and Clara Schmuck of Germany; a sister-in-law, Agnes Kronberg of Germany; 10 grandchildren, Robert W. Clayton III, Diane C. Martin, Charles E. Clayon, Mary C. Elliot, Sue Krueger, Karen Hill, Kris Franzen, Kim Lazarus, Karla Richardson and Liesel Devening; and 26 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Christian Krueger, Patrick Krueger, Charles Hill, Andrew Hill, Jason Martin, Rob Clayton IV, Kenneth Clayton and Gregory Clayton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Herman Gibson and George Comer.

Leslie A. Smith

OAKDALE, La. – Services for Leslie A. Smith, 67, of Oakdale, who died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at his residence, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church where the Rev. John Campbell officiated.

Burial was held at Rest Haven Cemetery of Oakdale under the direction of Ardoin Funeral Home.

He was a native of Natchez and a resident of Oakdale. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oakdale and was retired from the Allen Parish School System as a teacher, coach and principle.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie &uot;Gordon&uot; Smith of Oakdale; two daughters and their husbands, Denise and Ken Aguillard of Eunice, La., and Jennifer Lyn and Gil Robichaux of Katy, Texas; three brothers, Donnie Smith of Brookhaven, Rex Smith of Batesville, Ark. and Dalton Smith of Benton, La.; and eight grandchildren.
