Multiple winners at tennis tourney

Kevin Flowers, Karen Jones and Frankie Spence were double winners at the Cathedral Fall Festival Tennis Tournament Sunday at Duncan&160;Park.

Flowers and Jones teamed up to defeat Lisa Jordan and Dossett 7-5, 6-1 in Mixed 3.0.

&uot;The first set was a struggle,&uot; Jones said. &uot;But we relaxed after that and started playing our game and hitting the ball better.&uot;

Flowers and Danny Huffines outlasted Dennis Hogue and Russell Butts.

Jones and Jordan defeated Linda Dollar and Donna Jenkins 6-2, 6-3 for the Women’s 3.0 title.

&uot;I think it helps winning both in that I was able to keep playing,&uot;&160;Flowers said. &uot;And I was able to relax after winning the first one. I enjoy the mixed doubles more because everybody isn’t trying to kill it.&uot;

Jones said playing mixed doubles helps her overall game.

&uot;It’s really helped my game in the women’s league,&uot; she said.

In men’s 4.0 round robin play, Spence and Chuck Caldwell won all three of their matches for the championship.

&uot;It was a lot of fun, but it got kind of serious there for a while,&uot; Spence said. &uot;We had some real good competition.&uot;

Spence and Mary Ruth Caldwell defeated Jane Chauvin and Brent Bourland 6-0, 6-3 for the mixed doubles title.

In Ladies 4.0. Noreen Pyron and Connie Brewer won all four of their matches, while Augusta Smith and Brenda Johnson went 4-0 in Ladies 3.5.

Ninety players participated in the tournament.
