Caldwell team hanging tough

The philosophy is simple for Pat Caldwell’s 7.5 mixed doubles team. It’s actually the same.
&uot;We’re just going to do what we’ve had to do all year long, and that’s scratch and claw for everything we can get,&uot; Caldwell said.
Caldwell’s team (2-1) must win all three matches this morning to create a 3-way tie for first. They are the only one of four Natchez (Southwest) teams with a chance to advance to regionals at the Infiniti Mixed Doubles State Championship being held at Duncan Park.
Joining Caldwell on the 7.5 team are Bobby Holder, Lynn Leckie, Mary Ruth Caldwell, Mary Sawardecker, Wanda Horne, Bob Mayfield and Tricky Taulton.
&uot;We’re just excited to be playing in the state tournament,&uot; Caldwell said. &uot;The other Natchez teams are very strong and the team from McComb that won our district last year is strong. We’ve been undermatched every time we went out. We just go out and play wide open and hopefully hit all of our shots well.&uot;
The Southwest 5.5 team of Lindy Cardneaux, Dennis Hogue, Mary Ann Carter, Mark Carter, Jill Verucchi, Robert Verucchi, Stephanie Butts and Russell Butts went 1-2.
The Southwest 5.5 team of Lisa Jordan, Kally Chan, Torri Craft, Rick Freeman, Andrew Hodgson, Donald Jones, Karen Jones, Phyllis Jones and Trey Webber went 0-3.
Going 2-2 was the Southwest team of Brenda Johnson, Karen Blain, Michael Blain, Emily Eidt, Robert Hartman and Augusta Smith.
The Delta Shurden team will face the Pine Belt Delk team at 11:15 a.m. today for the 5.5 title.
In 6.5, the Delta Wells team meets the Coast Richton squad in one semifinal, while the Pine Belt Cadde team plays a wild card team in the other semifinal.
Halvern’s team is 3-0, while Jackson’s&160;Ware team is also competing.
In 8.5, the Northeast Taylor team meets the Pine Belt Carpenter etam.
Pine Belt’s Swilley team won 9.5 at 3-0, while Jackson’s Roberts team was second.
The top two teams in each division will advance to the regionals at Little Rock, Ark., Oct. 15-18.
